Food and Drink

The huge selection of gastronomic delights on offer in the German coastal region stretches from houses which smoke fish to highly decorated five star restaurants. Regional specialities and international culinary highlights are offered at festivals large and small and, of course, in the gastronomic houses. From the smoking chambers of the Baltic coast come the tender Kieler sprats and Rügener eels with their gold-brown bellies. At Hiddensee, the freshly caught and prepared eel pieces are cooked gently in butter. White herrings are eaten in the Western-Pomeranian and Schleswig-Holsteinian region with boiled potatoes and a bacon dip.
